can no longer backup partitions on USB drive

Thread needs solution

I've been using TI for nearly a decade.  Suddenly I can no longer backup partitions on a USB 3 hard drive.  I tried reverting to TI 2014 which used to work, but I now have the same problem there, which suggests it's a problem on my computer.  I tried disabling Kaspersky Security Suite, but it did not help.

TI 2015 and TI 2014 do not see the USB drive partitions when I try a partition or disk backup, but they do see it when I try a file backup.  However the file backup fails on both.  DD 12, Win Explorer, and iDrive backup all see the partitions and iDrive backs them up properly (to a cloud server).

TI is able to see multiple partitions on an eSATA drive, a single partition on a USB 3 flash drive, and the single partition on the boot SSD.  However it cannot see multiple partitions on a USB hard drive

I've been using Acronis since 2006 and until now have been fairly satisfied.  I don't want to switch, but I'll have to if i can't get this working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My configuration:

  • Win 7 64-bit Home Premium
  • Ti 2015 for PC build 6613
  • Kaspersky Internet Security

In case it helps someone, I seem to have solved the problem.

The problem actually got worse after my first post.  Initally TI found my other partitions and drives, but then it stopped finding all partitions and drives.  Disk Director 12 also could not see any drives or partitions.

Here's how I did got things working again.

I have a second backup system installed for a client, iDrive.  Acronis warns that having a second backup system installed can cause problems, so I tried uninstalling it, but it didn't do anything, so I reinstalled it to do a client back up, then went back to debugging Acronis.

I tried installing and uninstalling TI 2014 and TI 2015 several times.  Both had the problem.  I finally decided I prefer TI 2014.

The solution was that I uninstalled TI 2014, DD 12, and iDrive.  I also verified that all files were removed, I ran the System Mechanic Registry Cleaner, and I manually verified that all references to them had been removed from the Registry.  I then reinstalled TI 2014, DD 12, and iDrive.  TI and DD are now working fine.  They see all my partitions and drives.

I don't know what the problem was, but so far (fingers crossed!) everything appears to be working OK.  After nearly a decade of flawless operation by various versions of TI, this was an unexpected and frustrating experience.
