Can Not Backup to Networked Computer - Access to the File is Denied Error

Thread needs solution

I currently have two networked computers, one running Win 7 64Bit and ATIH 2012 and one running Win 8 64 bit ATIH 2013. At one time I was able to back up the Win 7 computer to a separate backup drive on the networked Win 8 computer and backup the Win 8 computer to the networked Win 7 computer. Now whenever the Win 7 computer attempts to backup I get the Access to the File is Denied error message (Event code: 0x00040014+0x0000FFF0+0x80070005). If I backup to another drive on the Win 7 computer it works fine. Also the Win 8 computer with ATIH 2013 backs up fine to the Win 7 computer over the same network. All drives on both computer have the correct permissions set. What am I missing?

 Hello John,

Thank you for posting. I will assist you with this issue.

"Access to the file is denied" error during backup to/from network share in most cases is caused by other applications locking the file used by True Image, as it does not have exclusive access to files on remote machines. You can find an example of such behavior on consolidation operation in this KB article: [[Acronis True Image Home 2012 Errors Out with "Failed to open data stream. Access denied" on Consolidation]].

Check that there is no software on Windows 8 locking the newly created backup file or the whole drive, preventing it from writing. Also check that the share is accessible from Windows Explorer on Windows 7. A test backup with True Image 2013 on Windows 8 locally to the same location Acronis True Image Home 2012 is backup up to, will prove that the drive is accessible for writing.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
