Can users see status/progress of bug fixes?
With Mozilla, users can go into their tracking database to see what's going on with changes or bug fixes in their products. Then users know if the issue has already been addressed rather than wasting yet another post on an already existing topic plus they can see if there has been any progress on implementing a change or on a bug fix.
Can Acronis customers see what's going on with changes and bug fixes in their products? For example, I was going to open a thread asking about the "No Windows Libraries" but happened to notice by first searching the forum that other users already asked about this over 8 months ago. Okay, so the bug isn't a critical issue but it does alarm new users (or old users that haven't yet researched this forum to see it's a non-issue) - but how do users find out whether or not Acronis is really addressing the issue? How do they KNOW that Acronis even opened a trouble ticket on the defect?
You can find the old posts on a topic with which you are experiencing difficulty, and there may be promises of future fixes, but to a large extent those are really just platitudes to placate the customers. A customer that experiences a defect that is years old and gets little attention is going to be more concerned about using the product than a customer who sees the defect is getting worked on (i.e., it's active and not just in "Open" status) or has already been fixed (so it WILL show up in a future release). I've seen so many of the "Development notified", "Working on it", "Should be available in a future release" responses in other forums but with the software not getting new releases until a year, or more apart, during which the customer has to suffer or find another product without the problem that such responses really don't mean anything anymore. They seem more intended to calm or quash a thread or to provide closure but not to provide a resolution or even a reasonable expectation. Seeing the progress on a bug, RFE (request for enhancement), or changes (divulged in public versus private functionality change to remain competitive) shows the user what's really going on.
