cannot boot without backup drive connected

Thread needs solution

Maybe this is the way it works but I recovered from a bad drive a year ago with acronis. I was up and running in 25 minutes. I store my backup images on an external hard drive. To day I had removed my external hard drive and tried to boot and could not. It said something about boot config. Then when I plugged my external drive back in I was able to boot into windows on my c drive. Does acronis keep some sort of boot config where you store your images to help boot a drive that has been recovered with their software? Thanks

It means that you external drive is the active/system partition, and contains the boot files and folders (these are hidden system files in the root).
It is easy to fix this. You can verify this by looking in Computer > Manager > Storage > Disk Management and look at the partitions properties, and then enabling seeing hidden folders and protected operating system files to check the root out with Windows explorer.

Which version of windows are you using?
