Cannot install True Image Home 10

Thread needs solution

After having a horrible experience with Version 9 I tried to upgrade to 10, thinking, in my delusional way, that this might solve the problem. I have spent the better part of 14 hours trying to install this $30 program.

Version 10 will not install. Version 9 will not uninstall. I have contacted customer support with no solution in sight. I have run the clean up utility four times in all configurations. I have manually deleted all files and registry entries I can find, using the Acronis list of entries. Regedit won't allow deletion of Scheduler.

So, I am unable to completely uninstall the old version, the new version won't install, and there is no effective help from customer support other than to tell me repeatedly to do things I have already done.

Stupidly I waited until after I bought this dangerous piece of code to look at user forums here and elsewhere where I find massive amounts of negative reviews on version 10 and loud admonitions to run as far as possible in the other direction.

How does one go about getting a refund? Obviously I won't use it because I can't use it and I have no desire to put something this defective anywhere near my data. So... how do I get a refund?

Stilson,

Are you referring to version 2009 and the current 2010 in your comments or do you really mean the really old original versions 9 and versions 10?

current version is Version 2010, 7046
Prior version was 2009
Prior to that was Version 11
Prior to that was version 10
Prior to that was version 9
Prior to that was version 8
prior to that was version 7

GroverH, thank you for responding. You may not realize it by my temperate tone, but I am a bit frustrated;-) I've looked at my version more closely and honestly, I can't tell. What I think I have is the old Version 10 that I tried to upgrade to the new Version 2010, 7046. In my previous verion (old 10 I believe) the computer completely locked up while I was backing up to an external USB2.0 drive. I had to unplug the machine. When it restarted Acronis started up and locked the machine again. I started in Safe Mode and renamed all the exe files. When I could get it into a regular boot I renamed them back and tried to uninstall. It wouldn't. I tried to intall the new version over the top (bad idea, obviously). It wouldn't. Nothing would either uninstall or install. I've been going through the registry according the directions for manual uninstall given by support personnel.

Unfortunately, the support personnel have only 'helped' by telling me things I already know and have tried. I know I have to be patient because often the user (including me at times) has overlooked some basic thing that solves it all. In this case, no.

I've heard reports of bricked disks laid at the doorstep of 2010's use of a new process and wails of anguish from others who have lost data. Although I've had good results from Acronis in the past, this situation is unacceptable. It is especially unacceptable when there is no effective support. Why should I have to spend egregious amounts of time, now going on 18 hours, to track down, alone, the damaging shards of their poorly coded program?

Sorry, I realize I'm ranting again. Short answer to your question: Old version 10 and new one 2010, 7046

Did you un-install the older version before installing the new version? If no, then I would use an old backup and restore your drive C back to when it had the old version installed.

Then, I would un-install the old version before attempting to install the new version. Since there is so much differences between the old and new and you want to remove all remnants of the old version, you might want to consider downloading Revo uninstaller and uninstall TI from within the Revo program.

Before you run anymore backups, you might also want to check bot your system disk and your usb disk for disk errors.

Good luck.

The version number for version 10 would be inside the help/about section at the top.
The version number for version 2010, hold down on the alt key to display the additional menu at the top.
