Cannot Recover The Selected Disk

Thread needs solution

Hi All, appreciate any help with this issue.
Company has 10 Dell 6530 laptops when we deployed them we took a backup of one to use if a hard drive ever crashed. Well s**t happens and I lost a hdd.
I attached the drive to my laptop with a DriveWire external drive adapter which I always do. I formatted the bad hdd and the drive is fine. When I try to recover the file onto the drive I get the "CANNOT Recover The selected Disk.

I talked to support and they said I had a single license and could only use the product on one drive??? But that seemed to be only a sales pitch to buy more licenses.

I attached a pic of the error. Ohhhhhh how I miss Symantec Ghost.

Thanks From Boston

When recovering a disk or partition image, it's recommended to do so from the ATI bootable Rescue Media. Boot from the bootable Rescue Media and validate that backup.

Where is the backup located?

P.S. If you want to post an image, post it as an image file. e.g. gif; .jpg; etc. Saving it as a Word doc makes no sense.

I have the exact same situation.

I needed to recover a hard drive and started Acronis True Image 2013.

A new version was available and I accepted the upgrade immediately.

The attempt top recover stopped with the message

Cannot recover the selected disk.

The message is not very informative to why the recovery can not take place.

The target disk is not formatted. After I received the message the first time, I formatted the drive and wrote data to it to verify the drive. The drive verified OK. I receive the message both with the drive as formatted or not.

If that's true, then you should have read and followed the reply:

If the disk isn't recognized, try the "Add new disk" command first.

Just to let you know.

I did try that and it did not work either.

I did not try add new disk until now. which didn't change nothing.

Any hints to get more information out of Acronis True Image to what the cause could be?

That is an unhelpful statement, as it tells us nothing.

Did you boot from the bootable Rescue Media and validate that backup? What was the result?
What type of backup is it?
Where is the backup located?
What type of PC and OS?

I don't know what "the same issue" is. The original poster didn't provide sufficient detail. Plus, this thread is over three years old. Please open a new thread, and provide more detailed information.

the Cannot Recover The Selected Disk issue, i have an image of a disk approx 80gb, but when i try to restore it to a drive 500gb, it just shows red cross and this message

John, sorry but a lot more information is needed in order to try to help you with this recovery issue.

What version of Acronis True Image are you using?

What version of Acronis True Image created the disk image that you are trying to restore? (if not the same)

How are you attempting to restore the backup image?
Where is the backup image stored?
What are you trying to restore to?  Internal or external drive?

This particular forum is intended for issues related to very old / obsolete Acronis products, so if you are using a more recent version, i.e. 2015, 2016 or 2017, I would encourage you to create a 'New topic' of your own in the relevant forum for the version you have.

Lastly, screen shots of the steps / panels you are seeing would be helpful.

As I responded, please open a new thread. There's no point adding to a thread that has been dead for over three years. Open a new thread with an appropriately-specific title, as that can help other users searching for similar issues and solutions.
