Cannot start the tool because another tool is running
If I start True Image 2013 and use the Mount Image tool, I see this error when I try to unmount.
The image was made in ATI2011 and it has the system partition (C:) and the System Reserved Partition for Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
I mount only the C: partition and give it drive letter O:
If I unmount using the Unmount tool, or Unmount by right-clicking the drive in Windows Explorer and choosing True Image -> Unmount the same thing happens.
I see the following threads running from Acronis products (attached image)

Jim,
I tried to duplicate your errors on both a Windows 8 64bit system and a Windows 7 64bit system, and do not have any problems mounting or unmounting .tib files as drives using either the Tools and Utilities mount/unmount tool, or the right-click Acronis menu items in Windows explorer. I was testing with images made with v10, v11, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and of course 2013. There could be a conflict with some other software or process running on your system. Not to sound like the same old song and dance, but possibly a repair installation might possibly help. If you can track this down, be sure to post your findings.

Well, to be quite frank, if I were to do a repair install, I would just re-install the system from earlier today that had ATI 2011 on it. That worked flawlessly for me.
If you search through these forums from my previous posts, you'll see the big mess I went through when I tried to install ATI 2012.
As you can see from the attached image, I have a complicated system. But I have a clean Administrative Event list with no errors, I never see any Chkdsk errors, and I regularly check the Registry settings for errors.

Jim,
Agreed that your system is complex. The removal/un-install routines for True Image 2013 are much improved over the 2012 version. I have removed and installed it on numerous system without issue. 2012 was another story left untold. I would still give it a try.

Jim,
I have had the same problem of a duplicate tool but have found that it is frequently caused by me not allowing the tool enough time to reset itself.
If necessary, until the problem is fixed, you can use the close the duplicate running process. While it is not the solution you would like, you can close the duplicate,
Ctrl-Alt-Delete
Windows task manager
Processes
Close the duplicate tool.

Well, perhaps you are right, but I did give it quite some time to complete.
The dummy files left over after each mount is also a bit weird.
The sluggish and uncompleting Windows Explorer shell displays are quite another thing entirely.
I have decided to revert to this morning's image.
It only took about 20 minutes to restore my C drive and I am back up again with ATI 2011.
I think maybe I'll wait a few rev's of this software and follow what other's are finding.

I'm new to this forum and just loaded Acronis True Image 2013. I set up my first backup (Drive Image) tasks yesterday.
As I was testing my backups, I successfully mounted / unmounted my two different drive images several times.
But, as I was continuing with my initial setup of the program, I mounted the backup of my main C: drive and verify that I could access and recover some files. When I tried to unmount the drive, I cont the same message indicating that I "Cannot start the tool because another tool is running".
I tried to unmount the image using the utilities "unmount" tool and by right-clicking on the drive in explorer with no success. I ended up ending the mounter process and rebooting the computer.
As other have indicated, I have the following residual files left in C:|Windows:
{C2102486-1A6C-11E2-8F80-E0CB4E01571E}
{C2102488-1A6C-11E2-8F80-E0CB4E01571E}
{E6556B85-1861-11E2-B43D-E0CB4E01571E}
Also, I checked to see if any of these files were listed in the first full backup that I created prior to mounting the Drive C: and Drive E: images and found that the first two files had no previous versions listed in the Acronis Recover tab. The last file had a previous version so I would assume that it was left over from the first backup that I created when I initially loaded the software.
Why are these residual files left? Can I just delete them? Also, I would like to know what other information that I can provide to you to help with resolving this unmounting issue.

I encountered stuff like this as well. I don't remember what I did to have it happen, but I just deleted the files.

Yep, new user, same problem and I gave it a fair bit of time. As GroverH pointed out, delete the Imagetools process via task manager, problem solved. I closed Acronis TrueImage first.

Good answer, wait. The software should display the hourglass wait cursor and offer a clear error message like please wait you already clicked there once and I heard you the first time. While I'm sitting here googling the frustrating confusing error message, the unmount window finally came up on my new laptop. I suspect the virus checker is scanning the entire mounted image and slowing things down over USB 2 external drive?
A classic case of if you click on it more than once it starts more than one...
According to Dell and Intel, I shouldn't have to be patience with my new i7 quad core but I probably need RAID solid state drives...
