Can't boot from Rescue CD

Thread needs solution

I've just installed ATIH 2012 and the Plus Pack and created a rescue CD, but I can't boot my PC from it. When I try I get the following menu:

Starting Acronis UEFI Loader
1 Acronis True Image Home
2 Acronis System Report
C Continue booting

When I select 1, after a short time the following message appears:

Run time exception - An EFI runtime error......

This quickly disappears to leave a blank screen and a flashing cursor. I have recently upgraded my motherboard to a Gigabyte Z77-D3H and rebuilt my PC (which is where the rescue CD was created). Prior to this I had an older motherboard which worked fine with a rescue CD created with ATIH 2011.

Can anyone suggest anything I can try to boot from the rescue CD?

TIA.

EFI runtime errors are usually due to EFI bios compatibility issues. Be sure you are running the latest bios for your system board. It is currently F14 dated 05/30/2012.
See this link: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4140#bios for bios updates.
Also since you own the Plus Pack, you could create a WinPE Recovery Disk to use instead of the Linux based Recovery Disk you create from your software installation, or download from your online account with Acronis.
See this link: http://kb.acronis.com/content/23882 for instructions on WinPE Recovery Disk creation

Thanks for that. I need to get to grips with the whole EFI/MBR/GPT business (I've had some strange Windows errors too when trying to repair/reinstall my OS)! My BIOS is only F12 so I'll update that too.

I just had a similar problem with my new Z77 MSI motherboard. The Acronis boot disk is based on Linux and it just did not like my hardware. The anser was to build a Windows PE based boot disk. See Acronis Knowledge Base item 23882.

Thank for all comments. BIOS upgrading made no difference, but I've built a WinPE boot disk and everything is working now. All hard drives are recognosied (I was concerned that they wouldn't be as I need to load an Intel RAID drive when I install Windows otherwise the install fails) and I have successfully restored from the backup I was trying to recover.

Good to hear you have a working solution.
