Can't create Rescue Media to SanDisk Ultra USB3.0 64GB USB drive?

Thread needs solution

Hi!
I tried to create a rescue media to SanDisk Ultra USB3.0 64GB USB drive, but it keeps having failure.
When I try to create the rescue media, the option for Format the selected media and permanently delete all data always pop up. If I don't tick the checkbox, I cannot proceed to format the USB drive. However, even if I proceed, it FAILed to create boot media. Unable to format media.
But this same USB drive has no problem. When I try to format under Windows regular format, it can be formatted. Also, read/write to this USB drive is perfectly fine.
I tried to take another USB drive (this time only 4GB, and also a SanDisk but with USB2.0 capability only). Performing of rescue media is fine.
What is the problem? the 64GB USB drive already pre-formatted with exFAT format.

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Tried standard formiting of the USB drive using windows 10. Acronis TI 16 still cannot format drive, There is now solution that I can find in the KB.

Acronis media builder must be used on a FAT32 formatted drive.  If your drive is exfat or NTFS, it will need to be converted to FAT32 first.  I'd recommend runnning "Diskpart / clean" on your drive from an elevated command prompt first.  Then, to ensure it's formated as Fat32, instead of using Windows, format it with fat32format

Also, Acronis media builder will only work with USB drives of the "removable" type. Some SanDisk's are marked at the factory as being "fixed disks" I have a 4-pack of 8Gb drives i purchased a few years ago.  This was done when Windows 8 came out as they thought it was necessary to be compliant with Windows to go for USB drvies.  Unfortuantely, it is not and only makes these portable disks less usable for some applications that require a removable disk.  A work-a-round is to create a bootable flash drive with another "removable" type.  then Image it with Acronis... then restore that image to your "fixed" usb drive. It now works.  You can also use this method to add Acronis bootable media to a larger external hard drive.  However, be advised that restoring an image to a single parition drive will format it completley.  Instead, you may want ot parition about 1GB free at the begiinning of such a disk and restore the image to it so that the remainng data is not impacted.

Thank you very much for responding with such detail. I did manage to reformat the USB drive which was 64 GB but made by Lexar using FAT32 and then Acronis allowed me to make a recovery USB.

Thanks, again

Good deal!  Fat32format is a nice little tool.  Very handy for "fixing" bad USB drives as well (not always, but has given me some success).  Every now and then, running diskpart /clean first and then this tool is needed, but almost always works after that.
