Can't get simple "back up now" to work
I have stopped my scheduler service so I can do backups when I want.
The result: when I push the "backup now" button, a little "True Image" window flicks up for nano second and that is it. Nothing works.
I can see the backup files on my external drive from Acronis but .....
I guess I will end having to uninstall, re-install and redo my backups again (this will be the third time)
Can
(a) someone suggest what to do ... (I have had this software less than 12 months, but I would have to pay for support to get basic functions to work after 12 weeks - shows how much belief Acronis have in their product)
(b) someone suggest a backup application that actually works because this one struggles to do the most basic simple backup task

OK so how do I restart it without having to re-install the software.
There is no way to access "settings"

Just like Mustang said, you need to have this service running. When you say you stopped the service, what did you do exactly?
Run Services.msc and make sure that Acronis scheduler services are running and set to automatic start.

I "stopped" the scheduler service in "settings" by changing it to do manually - because I wanted to do an image backup only when I felt it was needed.
(I do data-only backups using another incredibly reliable and simple software that never goes wrong: Goodsync).
The service you mention, may well been stopped by System Mechanic. It asks me to select what I want running in memory all the time, and what I want to run as a service when needed. I do this with many other applications with no ill effects on my system or the application.
When I tried to access the settings menu in Acronis, to see what was wrong, it would flick up for a milli-second and disappear - which may be because the service was stopped. But, when it is on manual, the service should launch with the application? All other windows apps work this way.
Anyhow, getting nowhere, I then foolishly tried to do a repair using the acronis setup, which succeeded in do the repair, supposedly successfully, only to tell me the software was now no longer installed on my machine when I tried to run it.
I then had to re-install the software and do a new entire backup, exactly as I thought would happen above.
In my view, Acronis may have some good features, but it sets the all time low standard as the most shoddy piece of software on my machine. It should never have these sort of issues for the most basic of backups and scheduling - all the problems are caused by the software not been able to cope with simple back up set up.
Adding insult to that injury is that I would have to pay Acronis for support for software that I have barely used, bought in November 2013, and has cause me to reinstall at least 4 times. It is only that I have spent over 50 UK pounds on it that I haven't uninstalled it, because I needed an image backup software just for an occasional image backup.
Unfortunately, reading through the forum, I can see that many, many others have had problems, most often worse than mine, and the consensus seems to be that Acronis is either unwilling or unable to produce solutions - when was the last time they provided bug fixes/upgrades? - but they will keep taking your money.
If you haven't plonked down your money yet, take my advice: look elsewhere. If you have: my condolences

In contrast, even though I have never had a problem with goodsync, others do - it is software after all.
Have at look at how a truly professional, highly proactive software company operates to support their customers - just look at the number of updates they provide free - http://www.goodsync.com/download/news-windows,
and all support is free
