Can't Install TI Home or Migrate Easy

Thread needs solution

I have used an earlier version of TI in the past and although it was somewhat complicated, I was able to perform backups and restores. TI came loaded on my Seagate external HD (750 GB and quite expensive.)

A few days ago I gave up on numerous problems on my VAIO (running XP)and bought a Gateway with Windows 7 already installed. My Seagate went dead in the process of trying to back up my VAIO with the idea of making a disk image and transferring my whole system to the new computer. I don't have a problem with 7 but I am concerned my applications will not run properly.

So, I go back to the store and buy a new external HD; a Western Digital MyBook Essential (500 GB). So everything seems to be all right but I'm leery of the software on the WD so I go to Acronis and see that there is a newer version available with some free app Plus? and I download that too even though I don't even know what it is for.

I buy the newer version of Acronis TI but first I uninstall my earlier version of TI and download it and successfully install it. Then I notice Acronis makes a data transfer software (highly rated) so I go back to the web site and buy that too. Now I'm in for about $80 of software. Then I tried to install Migrate Easy and it will not install. Thinking there is a conflict with TI, I uninstall TI and attempt to install ME. Here come the problems. I cannot install ME nor TI. I contact support and after three hours and three technicians (my VAIO kept crashing). I worked successfully for a long while but then the tech referred me to a KB article and left me hanging. In complete frustration I gave up and decided to use the free software that came with the WD external HD.

After reading numerous postings here, I see there are many, many users who are equally frustrated. My thought is: rather than spend 3 hours walking a user through a problem, why doesn't Acronis work on developing software that works. I intend to request a refund from Acronis.

BTW. after two hours of backing up (again) my VAIO, my brand new WD is undectable on either computer. It's dead too. Sorry about my rant but I just have to express myself. Sorry Acronis. I wanted you but you failed me.

Hello Keven,

We are really sorry for the difficulties you've experienced with Acronis software. We'll do our best to prevent such situations form happening in future.

The most probable reason of the installation issue is that Acronis True Image 2010 and Migrate Easy uses the same SnapAPI driver to handle all input/output operations with hard drives. Migrate Easy is a pretty old software, so Acronis True Image has much more newer version of the driver. In your case it seems that SnapAPI driver was not uninstalled completely, and this blocks Migrate Easy from installing.

Please also note that Migrate Easy's functionality (disks cloning) is available in Acronis True Image 2010 and there's no need to have both products installed. You can find more information about disks cloning in Acronis True Image 2010 User's Guide Chapter 20.

Please reply to this thread if you need any additional assistance, I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you.
