Can't recover backup using Rescue Cd

Thread needs solution

I can not recover my backup .tib file when I use the Rescue Boot CD (it hangs up near the end of the recovery) but everything works when I slave the destination drive to another master drive and do the recovery in Windows. Also, one of the partitions on the backed up file has a Truecrypt container on it, but I don’t know whether or not that matters ??

Anyone have any idea why the recovery doesn’t complete with the boot cd ? I’m using XP Pro and ATIH 10.

Thanks in advance -

Hello Dexter,

Let me resolve the issue.

In your case I may recommend to use a special version of the bootable CD based on ISOLINUX bootloader. ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released.

You need to have your product registered at the Acronis website to be able to download Acronis Bootable Media. See Registering Acronis Products at the Website.

  1. Log in to your account (if you do not have one, you will need to create it);
  2. Once logged in, click My Products & Downloads:

  3. Scroll down to the registered product and click Bootable Media:

  4. Click Download:

  5. Acronis Bootable Media will be downloaded as an ISO file. See Burning an ISO Image.

Please reply to this thread if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.

Well, some folks do use a mouse or KB with a laptop - just trying to see if there was an simple hardware issue why the loader hangs. The hardware is checked after the loading, please wait message. Sometime setting acpi=off helps.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the help, the bios is locked down so unable to to acpi = off .

You do mean in the bios , or have |I got it wrong ?

Hello,

Gary, thank you very much for you help.

Terry, you don't need to change anything in BIOS settings.

To boot of from the CD with 'acpi=off noapic' parameters please do the following:

  • boot the computer from Acronis bootable rescue CD (with ISOLINUX loader)
  • Hit the ESC key when ISOLINUX word appears. (This should happen before loading ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat).
  • You will get the boot: prompt. In the prompt type all the necessary parameters as shown below:

kernel.dat initrd=ramdisk.dat vga=0x314 quiet acpi=off noapic
