Can't restore back-up, acronis true image home 10

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

I've made a complete image of my whole computer when I just installed it properly.
This means that my back-up contains Microsoft Office, NOD32, photoshop and a lot more programmes which took me long enough to install them.

Now my computer is running slow (after 1,5 year) and I want to restore my back-up.
(My computer is a HP Pavilion DV6 running on Windows Vista. My back-up is on an external Lacie drive.)
When I try doing this, I start Acronis True Image Home 10 click on restore back-up, walk through the procedure untill the programme asks to restart.
Then on the restart I get the message "Acronis loader starting".
After this message I see a loading bar in an Acronis window flashing on my screen and then my computer just starts normally without restoring anything.

I've used Acronis already 9 times to restore a back-up and never had a problem, now when I try it on Vista it just doesn't work. I'm pretty sure my back-up is ok (I checked it with Acronis and I'm able to explore the back-upped files). I also tried to make a startup medium using the Acronis plugin. When I try booting from a CD/flash drive/external hard drive I get the message "acronis loader fatal error boot drive (partition) not found".
I'm really getting desperate right now because this would mean my back-up I've made 1,5 years ago became worthless.

I can't understand that an expensive (for a student) programme like Acronis True Image Home isn't able to fullfill my simple needs. A reaction would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Stijn Meul,

As you have found out, your recovery procedure needs to be tested (at backup time) to make sure it works and that the Recovery CD sees your drives so you can recover.

When I try booting from a CD/flash drive/external hard drive I get the message "acronis loader fatal error boot drive (partition) not found".

Normally, your best chance of a successful recovery if when booted from a TI Rescue CD. I f I understand your statement you created 3 different types of Acronis bootable Rescue methods and all three failed with the same error message.

This still leaves two other possibilities.
A. Return to your Acronis registration page and download the "bootable media" option. This is an alternate Rescue CD with different drivers than the one you created from the installed Windows version. After downloading, burn the iso file onto the CD as an image. Boot from the new CD and see if you can restore and checkmark the disk as what is to be restored.

B. Or, another possibility would be to try the trial version of the current version 2011.

Here, you also have two options as it relates to version 2011, You can contact one of the support individuals and request a download link for the version 2011 limited trial Rescue CD and use it to restore your version 10 backup. This CD's only function is to perform a restore.

Or, you can download & install the full trial version of 2011 and create you own version 2011 trial Rescue CD. The problem with this is that you must uninstall version 10 before you can do a Windows install of the full trial package.

This was exactly what I meant (sorry if I wasn't clear about this).

I'm afraid I can't find the download link you're referring to.What do you mean with my Acronis registration page? Is this the page where I get an overview of all my Acronis products because the only download option I get here is to download the installer for Acronis 2010.

Edit: I've found this page on the forum: http://kb.acronis.com/content/4828 .
The only options I get in the registered products menu are "Latest support", "Upgrades" and "Support".
There is no "Bootable media" option...
Anyone an idea of what I should do now? :)

Thanks for the fast answer,
Regards
Stijn

Yes, that is the correct spot. If you are not using the English version of TI, you may have something different. Contact a forum support person with a private message and see if they have an alternate bootable media for your version.
