Hello Mike,

Welcome to our forum and thank you for posting. I will definitely help you with this issue.

I would really appreciate if you can provide me with screenshots of the errors that you are getting when trying to use the devcon utility. This will allow me to understand why it is not working on your machine.

Looking forward to your reply and if you have additional questions please let me know.

Thank you.

I had to extract devcon amd 64 out of the iso image WDK\setuptools_x64fre.msi found http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/wdk/relnotesw7.mspx <---------- here, then to extract the exe i had to use a tool - Universal-extractor to get to this file WinDDK\7600.16385.win7_wdk.100208-1538\tools\devcon\amd64\devcon.exe which supplied the devcon that is indeed for windows 7 64bit not the link you provided on your uninstall.

If you read your tutorial carefully and click on the link you provided for "devcon" it clearly states it is not Compatible to use under Windows 7 64bit .

Besides the fact i did run your uninstaller but ran into many hiccup's and registry files that where left behind i basically had to run a reg cleaner CCleaner and even with the reg cleaner it still left a trail behind.

As of now i am still encountering a problem my system is starting to hang on boot. When i go to check computer management, windows log, system (s) to get to the service control manager i see that there is a error ""The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load - timounter.

From doing a extensive Google search it seems that this timounter has something to do with Acronis is there any way you can help me out with this situation? My last resort is doing a full format but I would like to go another route if possible.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for the follow-up.

I have forwarded your comment to our KB team, thank you for your feedback.

The timounter is a driver which allows users to mount partitions from images by means of Mount Image wizard in Acronis True Image products.

It was not removed completely it appears, to correct the issue please refer to this article so that you can remove it manually.

Please let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.

Thank you for the tutorial i have one more question in this part of the tutorial,

Delete timounter string from:

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters

It states to only delete the string timounter. I don't see no value under that reg i don't even see volsnap or snapman, my upperfilter is blank.

can that cause a problem?

I too am not able to UNinstall Acronis 2011. This whole thing started when I installed 2012 which was a failure. So I tried to go back to 2011 and the install routine keeps asking me to insert the install CD (which I don't have because I downloaded the installation). The install keeps asking me to insert the Install CD so that it can find the following file...... TIMNTR_A64.SYS

A secondary problem is that when I do a registry search i find remnents of Acronis. and I don't have security access to delete that stuff in the registry. Even though I am logged in as as the Admin.

Thanks

Mark,
At this point, your best option is to use one your most recent 2011 backups and restore your system back to the same condition it was on the date of the backup. If you have some more recent files, you should copy these off to CD or elsewhere so you could add them back after the restore process.

Once you get your system back with 2011 installed, your could then run the un-install or run the 2011 cleanup utility.

Acronis 2011 (or 2012) is no longer on my PC to do a restore. Only remnents of 2011 are on my PC (in the registry) which I don't have access to completely remove.

If you took a backup and you still have that backup, you can restore it using the TI Recover CD. TI does not need to be installed on your machine. If you have the backup, then visit your Acronis registration page and download the bootable media iso file and burn that file as an image onto a new blank CD and then boot with the CD into Acronis TrueImage.

If you do not have a backup, then you really should make the CD and create a new backup anyway. Afterwards, then you could run the 2011 cleanup utility (check my signature below for link) for a complete removal of the remnants. The backup would be a safety precaution in case the cleanup utility should make your system non-bootable. Such a thing usually does not happen but having the backup is a recovery method in case it did happen.
