Can't uninstall or re-install Acronis True Image Home 11

Thread needs solution

I installed the trial version a couple of weeks ago. Whenever I tried to start Acronis, I got a blue screen crash. Windows uninstaller refused to uninstall it as "a configuration file is corrupted". I then tried a fresh download, hoping I could install a good copy over the 'corrupt' one. But the Acronis installer won't run. It says a config file is corrupted (Duh, I knew that!)

This is incredibly frustrating. I own Acronis TI Home 2009, and was looking forward to buying the new one. However ... I can't run the trial, I can't get rid of it, and now I can't use my old version!

I'm running Windows 7 Home SE 64-bit.
I've tried installing (and uninstalling) with explicit Administrator privileges, and I've tried this in both 64-bit and 32-bit compatibility mode.

My old Acronis was installed on XP Pro (32-bit) SP3. However, I can't install that on my new computer because of the issue above.

What should I do?

Try to use the cleanup utility and see if you have some chance: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/14906

Otherwise, maybe you have a backup you can use prior to your installing 2011? If so, restore it, uninstall your older verion, install the trial.

Thanks, Pat :)

I did get rid of it in the end. I had to grant myself full permissions on all the Acronis folders, which is a bit of a palaver in Win7. Then I disabled Acronis startup entries from System Configuration -> Services, rebooted, deleted the program folders and ran a registry cleaner. The main problem seemed to be that Windows registered Acronis as running so wouldn't allow any changes (if that makes sense??)

Feeling a bit nervous about re-installing the trial now, but I'll have a go!

You could do a backup from the recovery CD before you install your trial... This way you can go back to your cleaned up system if you are not happy with it.
