Can't update Acronis TI 2009 home to latest build, etc

Thread needs solution

Using Acronis TI Home 2009 to make a backup of my Asus PC 1002HA netbook to DVD-R disk using a USB attached optical drive. The was preparatory to doing some software experimenting on the netbook It made the backup fine, validated fine, seemed all OK. Bit I take nothing for granted, so I went through the motions of booting from the Acronis Bootable Rescue Disc I had just created. That seemed fine. I removed the disc and attempted to validate the backup on the 2 DVD disc backup I had created. But the external drive (from which I had just booted) was not even seen! TI home version 11 had no problem with that scenario, so I assumed this was just a bug in the disc version I purchased from Newegg, and so I downloaded the latest update from Acronis. When I tried to install it, I was asked to enter the serial number. The serial number that came with the disk was huge. When I first installed the program, that number worked fine. When I tried to install the update, it would not accept all the characters, truncating it, so the update could not be installed. Now I can't even find someone to ask how I can fix this? I did find a suggestion to download an older version, with the promise that a fix would be made available soon. But the version I downloaded was dated November of 2009, 3, months ago. "Soon" after November ought to be no more than a few weeks.

I have purchased ver 11, 3 copies of 2009, and one of 2010, as well as the Disk Director. Disk Director never really worked right, and my request for support on it received a response about a month after i made it, and was not satisfactory. That will be the end of my Acronis purchases. True Image has gone downhill, and apparently the folks at Acronis feel the way to recover is to cut off all contact with customers, saving some aggravation if not money. They won't miss my business, I'm sure, but I'm not the only former customer. Goodbye Acronis.

Continuing the saga: I found a different "latest version" (how can there be more than one?) of TI 2009 Home and it installed with no problem. It didn't even ask for a serial number this time.
I created a new Bootable Rescue disc. It boots OK, but the screen is clearly not right, split in two zones, and the mouse is more like a squirrel. The windows jump about frequently, apparently when something is being redrawn. It is possible to use this, but totally annoying. The new version can't read the backup volumes I made under the older version of 2009, so I've wasted those discs and have made a new backup, which I was able to validate also from the Bootable Rescue. Presumably, that means I could restore from those discs. If not for the screen insanity when booted from the Rescue disc, the program would be usable. But why did I have to go through all this to get an update, and then have the screen behave so badly? I don't see any advantage to using Acronis products..

Hello William,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

Acronis True Image Home 2009 doesn’t support netbooks. We have special version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Netbook Edition for these purposes. Check the list of support netbooks using this KB article. You may download free trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Netbook Edition and check it functionality.

Regarding the issue with rescue media I have sent you ISO image of Acronis bootable disc based on different loader via PM. It has better hardware support and it will certainly solve the issue, but I also recommend you to try rescue media created with Acronis True Image Home 2010 Netbook Edition as this version is specially designed for netbooks.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
