Chain 2 Gen

Thread needs solution

In case anyone is interested.... I have been a big fan of the Chain2Gen script and have used it for many years, mainly to create a GFS archive. I recently bought the ATI 2015 upgrade because the price for three PCs seemed reasonable. However, I have been unable to get Chain2Gen to work with ATI 2015.

The problem seems to be that if you delete a backup chain, then when the backup job runs the next time it raises a prompt, warning about the missing backup. ATI 2014 did not raise this prompt, and just created a new full backup.

As a result, I have since reverted to ATI 2014, which works fine - I wish I had saved my money.

(As an aside, I was also unable to get the script to run without exiting with error code 99 when running the pushd command. Testing the script when creating the backup job worked fine - but not when invoked by the backup job. I guess this might have been fixable, but I gave up because of the other problem).

Yes. Many of us would agree. C2G lasted as usable without any changes beginning with the 2009 version. OracleDBA created an excellent piece of code.
Unfortunately, the problem you describe with the deletion is true. A simulated validation of the backup (if one exists) or a simulated recovery may correct the history file so the backup will run again, but that is easier said than done.

The error option can be adjusted to run just once but that may not help.
