I have Acronis true image 11 home in German on my laptop which runs Windows 7. Since I work faster in English, is it possible to change the language or exchange it for the English version?

Have you tried a Repair Installation of TI 11?
Through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs...
Then for languages choose English?

I tried to follow your advice, but get a message that repairs can only be done online and this is not available. I think the simplest solution would for for Acronis to be kind enough to swap the German version for one in English. I will try to send them an e-mail.
