Changing Login Credentials for NAS File Backup

Thread needs solution

I did an incremental file backup of my NAS using ATI 2014. The first time I configured the backup, I was asked for the NAS login credentials. I entered them, and the backup completed successfully. Subsequent incremental backups completed successfully as well. I recently changed the login password on my NAS. As expected, the original backup task no longer works. The backup starts, but it hangs when Calculating Time of Backup. If I change the NAS login password back to the original password, the backup task works again.

Is there a way to update the login credentials for the backup task? I can't find an option to do so in the backup configuration settings. I should also mention that the NAS network location and all files on the NAS are visible on the backup configuration screen.

Hi,

Did you solve this issue? I'm having exact the same problem.

In the past my Win7 logon credentials were the same as my NAS user credentials.
I changed the NAS credentials, and now the backup fails.

I tried creating a new backup task. When navigating to the NAS backup location, I could enter login credentials and test the connection.
Seemed to work fine.
When I then start the backup task, Acronis asked for Windows credentials??? Entering my Win7 account did not work. When entering
the NAS credentials, the backup started (so in fact the dialog was incorrect, as it didn't ask for Windows credentials).
But the after a few seconds the backup task failed again.

Any ideas?

I haven't figured out how to change the credentials for an existing backup task. I can work around it by changing the login credentials of my NAS back to what they were when I did the original backup. If I do that, TI will complete an incremental backup. If I don't change the credentials first, the backup hangs.

Also, when I create a new backup task for the NAS it will ask for the NAS login credentials when I select the network location. If I enter the new credentials, the backup works. So I could just delete the old backup and start again. But I don't really want to do that as I've got around 7TB of media files to backup.

Hi Dar Wunder,
I haven't had a chance to retest this scenario in my environment. What happens if you edit the task and change the back up destination? This might/should force you to re-authenticate. You'll have to change the password back to the new "incorrect" one to force the prompt. Let us know if this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion shadowsports. Unfortunately changing the backup location didn't prompt me to re-authenticate. I was also incorrect when I previously indicated that I was prompted for login credentials when creating new tasks for backing up the NAS. Over the holiday break I deleted all the previous backup tasks and created new ones. I was not asked to provide login credentials when I selected the NAS network location as the backup source. The backups all failed unless I reset my NAS password back to what it had been the very first time I had been asked for credentials. I then setup a couple of test backups of other network locations. In all instances I was only prompted to provide login credentials the first time I selected a given network location as the backup source. For any subsequent backup tasks I created of that source, I was not prompted to provide credentials.

I did find a workaround though. I created a dummy backup task that used the NAS as the backup destination. I was prompted for login credentials. I entered the current NAS password. After that, the original tasks I had created to backup my NAS to an external location worked again.

I had the same problem. Even uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.

The reason is:

the login credentials are saved in the registry and are not removed
just delete the connections inside the smb folder or ftp if you are using ftp.
HKEY_USERS\S-**your sid**\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Connections\smb

if you don't know your sid, you can get it by using this command in the powershell or cmd:
whoami /user

result will look like this
User Name SID
========================= ============================================
**my name** S-0-0-00-000000000-000000000-0000000000000-0000

Hope this helps.
