Check validity

Thread needs solution

I have moved all my backups to a larger disc.
How can I check whether they transfered correctly without corruption?

You can use the recovery CD, or ATI running from windows to validate the files.
If you kept the default installation and application settings for the Windows integration, you can right click on any TIB file, choose "archive -> Validate".

To check the backup files, Validatition is the way to go. To check the restored files on adisk that has been restored, well, you can't do that in any direct way. However, validation is a good substitute for directly assessing the restored files.

Validate will confirm that the backup file is unchaged since it was created. Since ati can backup while the pc is in use, it can't simply compare a backup to the original disk/partition/file. So instead, as it backs up it creates checksums every so often and embeds them inthe backup. Whe you validate, it recomputes the checksums from teh backup and compares them to the embedded figures. If there is a difference, then at least one bit has changed and the file in not the same as when created and declared invalid. Validation works best for jsut the kind of thing you want to do, which is confirm that the file is unchanged. For everything else it is a necessarily ersatz assessment.
