choosing location for incremental backup

Thread needs solution

I run True Image 2010 on Vista Ultimate, and my primary disk contains C: partition (software), D: partition (user files), and E: (other stuff).
I have images of C:, but that is not the subject of this post.

I made a full backup of the important directory trees from D: to a separate USB disk (F:), and then a couple of incremental backups. But somewhere along the process I obviously didn't watch what was happening, and it created a full backup on E:, then an incremental.
It now won't let me do an incremental to F: - I have had to delete the backups in E:, and do a new full backup on F:.
If this happens again, how do I tell True Image to do an incremental to F:, when it is trying to backup to E:?

If you are a user of 2010 home, the full backup is the base and then an incremental is possible. Without the base, the incremental has no value and cannot be used.

The backup file is a set and the beginning building block is the full. If can have additional incrementals but creating an incremental without the base is not possible.

I would think if you referenced the full or the last incremental in F (as long as the complete chain backwards to the full is present) it should do it. Like Gronver said, it is a set and the set has to be complete.

The original full and a few incrementals (a month or more old) were in F:, but I couldn't direct it to them, I could only see them with Windows explorer - Acronis went straight to E:.

Don't know why, but it has now decided to let me choose which full backup to add to, so everything now seems to be working OK.
Thanks for your replies.

Hello all,

Let me comment this situation.

When creating a backup, software asks you to specify the backup to create an incremental or differential backup to it. This backup can be located on other drive too. Anyway, if it's not possible to do for some reason - you may always copy the backup chain to the same drive where you want to create an incremental backup.

Anyway, I'm very glad that you were able to resolve the situation.

Please feel free to ask us if you have any further questions.
