Cleaning up my external HDD as I have no space left in the HDD.

Thread needs solution

Hi: I have setup Acronis 2014 to do a Incremental backup of my disk. I had not selected anything in the "Automatic consolidation settings". I am running low on my external HDD space. I want to delete backups older than 30 days. If I check "Storage period of old backup version exceeds (days)" and select 30, will it delete the older stuff before it runs next time or do I need to manually delete old files from the HDD. If I have to delete, I am not sure if it's ok to delete the old files since I have set up the backup to incremental backup.

Thanks
Ravi

Deletion of older incrementals is not an option. If you do so, the newer incrementals will all be useless due to the missing files which contain data which is not longer available. Remember, inc only backup what was changed from the last inc so any deletion of old inc is a total loss of data.

Get a new storage drive if needed and start over with a new task which does delete the older files automatically.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains. The 6-4 is user choice.

------------------------------
The diff type backup contains everything from the last full so a restore only needs any dif plus the full or two files is a complete restore.
GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme. 2 Diff, Keep 2 chains. The 2-2 is user choice.
