Cleanup options can cause backup to fail - Acronis please note

Thread needs solution

I believe I have stumbled across a bug in the clean options which can cause the backup to fail. The condition seems to occur if the option is set to delete files after a certain number of file versions. When Acronis Online hits the version limit the backup may fail and leave incomplete files in the archive.

My reason for believing this is that my scheduled desktop online backup task started to fail repeatedly for no apparent reason; it would not run automatically or manually. But an identical task on my laptop ran OK. See my previous post.

To try to resolve the problem before posting I did the following:
1. Checked that the Acronis scheduler service was Started and set to Automatic.
2. Confirmed that Windows firewall would allow Acronis traffic.
3. Checked I am using the latest build of TI 2010.
4. Repaired my installation from the latest download on the Acronis site.
5. Finally, re-installed TI 2010 and reset all my scheduled tasks - a real pain!!

None of the above resolved the issue. Eventually, because I became concerned with the integrity of my backups, I decided to try to retrieve some files from the online archive. This was successfull proving incidentally that there was no problem in connecting to the Acronis servers. However, during the retrieval process I noticed that a number of my critical files had reached the cleanup limit (20 in my case) and that thereafter all subsequent backups of those files were incomplete. So I painstakingly deleted all incomplete file versions older than 20 and reset the cleanup limit to 99. Bingo, my backup ran OK manually without hitch. I have scheduled to run daily and will see what happens overnight.

Hope this may help others using the service and that Acronis Support picks it up. My only doubt now is what happens when I hit the 99 version lmit - or should I simply ignore the clean up options?
