Clone C drive in Vista

Thread needs solution

I cloned C disk to new F disk, now need for Vista to see the new one as C.
I said save old data. If I clone and say don't save will the new disk come up C?

Question is... how to copy all of old C to new hard drive and make Vista use the new drive for C?

When you use the Clone feature, before you try to boot the newly cloned drive, you MUST disconnect the original drive. After the new drive boots for the first time - it will be the C drive - you can then reconnect the original drive.
Cloning WILL COPY all of the old C to the new drive.

I cloned old c to new drive and removed old c drive  Now Vista will not boot from new drive. It see it but won't boot.  I had to reinsert old c to get it to boot.   HELP

What error message showed on the non booting clone?  Maybe a Vista repair will fix it - boot with your Vista installation dvd and choose the Repair feature.  And for the record, what version and build of True Image are you using?

It just kept tring to cycle and start over looking for a bootable drive.  It did show new drive.

I'm using 10 biuld 4871

While version 10 is one of the better versions, the latest build is 4.942.  Upgrade to it and try the Clone process again.  Or what you might try first is to make the bootable Rescue CD, boot with it and use the Clone feature on it.  Sometimes you get interference with the clone process from things in Windows.  By using the CD you eliminate that from happening.

If you have your Vista CD, boot from it. Select Repair (bottom left area of the screen) when you see the "Install". It will automatically make the new C drive bootable. Make sure the old drive has been removed and no other drive is active. Or to ensure no other dirive is creating a problem for you disconnect ALL drives but the boot drive.

Thanks for the help I went to the Western Digital site and the they had a Acronis platform just for the WD disk  and I downloaded it and it worked to do all I wanted....  Thanks for you help.....

I bought a new computer because my old one's screen started clouding over. The new computer has Vista 64 on it. My old computer had xp home media on it. How do I transfer everything to my new computer. I have True Image Workstation and migrate easy.

Howard, you should start a new topic.

But the quick answer is that it is better to install your apps anew since the OS is different. For data files, as in the My Documents folder, you can simply use Windows Explorer to copy the contents on to a flash drive or external drive.
