Clone disk fails

Thread needs solution

Build 6613

Trying to clone a 4TB drive to a 8TB drive. Drive contains three partitions, drive is for a Synology NAS (DSM 6 - Linux). Using Acronis bootable rescue media, latest version.

Looks like it clones the first two partitions, then stops. Progress bar says 26 seconds remaining for 15+ hours, then I cancelled it.
Tried a backup/recovery too, no luck. Backup corrupted it says in the logs...
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

My understanding of using ATIH to clone Linux partitions is that this will be done in sector-by-sector mode with no ability to do resizing, hence your disks.txt in the Acronis System Report zip shows that this is what was taking place with your attempt to clone your 4TB source drive to your 8TB target drive.

Sector-by-sector mode will take a significant amount of time to complete, especially as the third partition on your source drive is 3.6TB in size with only 11GB free, but where all sectors will be copied.  Unfortunately the progress bar is not always a reliable indication of the time to complete this type of operation.

The alternative to using Acronis to do this clone would be to buy a dual bay clone docking station that can take drives of these sizes and perform the clone without requiring a direct connection to a PC using a hardware clone method.

There are many different duplicators available, but you want to look for one that is USB 3.0 and has offline cloning capability such as these:

If TIH can't do a clone from a 4TB to a 8TB, why is it spending 23 hours on trying? Couldn't it just tell me it's unsupported?
No, I don't think you are right here. It is supposed to do be able to do this, but fails.
It is in fact (supposedly) able to do both dynamic resizing and "as is" cloning. I chose "as is", as I could easily expand the 3,6 TB partition to whatever using the NAS OS later on.

I ended up downloading the free Macrium Reflect instead, it created a perfect clone on the 8TB in just under 9 hours. Some products just do what they say.
