Clone Failed to write to sector of hard disk 2?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I need a little help.

I've just brought a new hard drive and wanted to clone the old one to it and do a direct swap. There's nothing wrong with the old one it's just an upgrade.

I've brought a WD Blue 500GB hard drive (new). And downloaded the WD copy of Acronis True Image 2013 from their website.

I've got the new drive in a USB caddy to transfer the data.

All seemed well, however after trying to clone the drive I get the following error:

Failed to write to sector '3,541,824' of hard disk 2
Direct R/W operation has failed (0x590001)

I've tried it a few times and had the same message. There has been no data transfered at all.

I've run a disk check on the new drive and it says it's fine.

Is it likely to be a faulty disk (I did get it delivered so it could have been bumped about during the delivery), or is it something I'm doing. I was using the automatic clone tool.

Many thanks

Use the WD disk diagnostics utility to check the disk. I assume you used the /R option of chkdsk. Sometimes chkdsk doesn't issues that throw ATI off...

Also, do the clone from the Acronis recovery CD, put the new drive at the same spot as the old drive, put the old drive in the caddy. Boot the computer on the recovery CD, do the clone, paying extra attention at which disk you select as source and which one you select as destination since ther ecovery CD might show you drive letters different from the ones Windows shows you.
Upon completion, disconnect the source drive, reboot in Windows.

If your new drive is advanced format and your old disk not, let us know.
