clone a flash drive for Edgerouter lite

Thread needs solution

I'm a long time user of Acronis True Image, but use it only for full disk backups. My newest version is 2013.

I need to clone a flash drive. It's the main drive for an Edgerouter lite. It holds the full router operating system on a 2GB flash drive that's removable and replaceable. I want a reliable backup I can plug in if needed. The OS is part FAT32, part EXT3, and who knows what else.

I'm sure it's an easy project, but I've never done it and I need to know it was done correctly. What are the steps? Thanks.

Its always easier when sat in front of the problem but I'm pretty sure that all you need do is plug your working drive into the PC (that has Acronis installed) and just make a normal image of that USB drive. That will create a small .tib file that can then be "recovered" to a new drive. I've certainly done nothing more exotic than that when imaging SD cards (camera) as a test of the method for curiosity. It might be worth making the image a "sector by sector" type (tick the option box) which backs up unused space as well.

You can't damage anything. Just make the image of the original drive, then safely remove it and only then try restoring the image back to a new drive.

Thanks. Sometimes the obvious isn't the first idea that pops into my head.

Backup. Restore to other flash drive. Works or not.

It seemed different because it was a flash drive and not a platter.
