Clone flawless until driver load and reboot

Forgive me if there is another thread relative to this, I could not find it.
Cloning from Primary HD to brand new formatted HD in USB enclosure. All went off without a hitch. Power down successful. Pulled the destination drive and placed it in the primary drive bay. powered on and all looked good and the desktop came up. Driver load occurred for the new HD and I was asked to reboot and answered yes. From there everything went south. Cooling fan accelerated to HIGH, blank screen and nothing more. Tried a hard boot restart after waiting 5 minutes for something to happen. Nothing.
I welcome any insights or suggestions on how I should proceed.
