Clone to SSD creates partitions?
I bought a new SSD (275gb) and planned on cloning and replacing my current HHD (2tb).
Only thing on the HHD now is my C drive (OS, Programs, etc) at about 190gb.
Registered and downloaded the ATI2015 ...the offer that came with my Crucial Drive.
Installed Acronis, followed the Cloning steps...all pretty easy really.
20 minutes later I got stuff on my SSD.
Except my C drive showed as a single drive/partition (in Computer/Explorer)...but the SSD has two drives/partitions. One named "System Reserved (G)" 29Gb, and the other "Local Disc (I)" 160Gb
Why am I seeing the "System Reserved" partition and why does it have a drive letter?
When I remove Disk 0 and allow the SSD (Disk 1) to become primary with OS, I want it to show as C-Drive.
What happened?...Help please?

forget that 29gb comment...was me confusing some numbers. I was trying too hard to be thorough with my explanation. lol
This idea of swapping the drives first and then cloning and then removing was not explained to me anywhere. I followed the explanations with the Acronis software the best I could. Its nobody else's fault but mine...but this seems like an important thing that might well have been explained during the use of the Acronis software.
I had looked at a couple of youtube videos which also did not illustrate this fact.
Anyway...my next step is to reformat the new SSD...wipe it clean...and remove it.
I'm waiting for a new Power Supply...not enough power plugs on my existing one to run these drives and my DVD rom. So, I'll redo the SSD clone when I have that installed. And I guess, at that time, I'll follow your instructions.

You may not need to wipe the new SSD and redo the clone. Try removing the original drive, replace it with the cloned SSD and see if it will boot up OK into Windows. Both drives look to have the correct partitions - the System Reserved partition on the cloned SSD will have the Windows Boot Configuration Data (BCD) which hopefully will be intact. Got to be worth a try before having to start over.

In the end I just want my OS drive to be named C. Thats all.
And that way my storage drive can be named D. (The 2TB HDD will eventually replace the existing D drive)
If the storage drive letter isn't D I will have to redo a ton of websites! ...because thousands of file locations will be affected.
okay, not tonight...I'll try it tomorrow.
thanks!

The System Reserved partition should always be hidden and without a drive letter, so your OS partition should be given the drive letter C:\.

I couldn't wait! lol
I popped out my original C drive...and moved the SSD to that SATA cable.
Booted up fine...and now I have a single C drive showing. The System Reserve cannot be seen in Windows Explorer.
All is working fine so far, so I would say the clone was a success. All I have to do now is put this 2 Tb HHD back in, format it, and transfer my D drive contents to it. It will become my storage...and the smaller D drive will go into my media computer. Because there is the original OS still on it, will it affect the boot up or anything like that?

airdave, glad to hear that all is working OK with the new SSD, thanks for feeding back.
With regard to moving the old drive to your media computer, so long as it is not recognised as the default boot device then having the original OS still on it shouldn't be an issue. Suggest you check the BIOS settings and make a note of what the current boot device is before putting the drive in, then double check again that nothing has changed.

maybe spoke too soon. I do have a few small problems.
Odd thing going on with fonts. I can't control the replacement of certain fonts in different programs, browsers, websites, etc. I've tried removing, replacing, shifting some font files around. Also tried selecting "default font settings" in various places. Not completely successful.
Also found one program (so far) that would not work anymore. Would not boot up the program. Eventually I uninstalled and reinstalled. Couldn't get it to work at first until I played with admin settings, compatibility, permissions, etc. Even now it doesn't seem to start right. And...the logo icon has now disappeared from the desktop and task bar!
My clock widgets won't work at all. I keep six time zone clock widgets on my desktop. I redownloaded them and reinstalled. No luck. I gave up.
I assume these are all data corruptions occurring during the copy/clone process.
What else will go wrong? lol

If both the source and target drives for the clone process were good, then there should not be any corruption caused by the process - if clone hits any bad sectors then you would get an error message.
It is possible that some data has been 'damaged' because of running the system with both of these drives installed and if you are seeing unpredictable issues then I would recommend starting over and doing the clone in the recommended way, including ensuring that only one drive is connected when booting.

I found a couple more programs that will not run.
I even resorted to reinstalling them both, and one still would not work. The issue appears to be related to compatibility again. I'm having to reset a lot of admin permissions and compatibility settings. To me, this says missing elements in files, but what do I know.
Theres also a problem related to some file moves, while trying to free up space on the Drive (before cloning). It may have something to do with my font issues. But its really weird the things that have gone to weird fonts. And I can't change them back.
I would like to reclone the drive but I have already done a lot of work since yesterday. Stuff like lots of emails will be lost if I reclone C drive. And I don't want to mess around with backing up Thunderbird and then trying to restore. In the past, I have had problems with Thunderbird backups. But nothing like the problems I have had with Outlook! lol
I'll keep working on things until my new PSU gets here...and then I'll decide what to do.

I can recommend a utility called MozBackup from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mozbackup/ that I have used many times to backup & restore my Thunderbird email settings, mail, profile, extensions etc.
I make a point these days of keeping all this on a separate partition away from the OS so that any restore does not cause these issues.
You just need to edit your C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles.ini path= statement to show where you are keeping your mail profile data.
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=0
Path=D:\Thunderbird
Default=1

I think I have used mozbackup in the past.
I usually just copy the necessary folders. I found the exporting address book and backups seemed to work the best because of Thunderbird updates. I've had experience with third party backup software not being able to restore files...and I think its because of the sheer number of Mozilla updates. They change their software too much, and too often. Its frustrating.
I used to redirect my Tbird save folders...I forgot about that...haven't done that in some time.
I think I have stuck with this clone...other than some minor glitches (which I am sorting out), everythng seems to be working okay. I am not averse to reinstalling Windows, so if push comes to shove...its easy enough to save files and move stuff. The hassle of the reinstall, is rebuilding the programs collection each time.
Anyway, I've already wiped my original C drive...its now a 2tb file storage (4 partitions)... so I can't go back now! Today I have to make a new system image and set up the regular backup to one of those partitions.
The new SSD is working well...I got a new Power Supply installed last night, so all looks good from here. Thanks for all the help.
