Clone a system drive to a active partition

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2009 on a USB boot drive (Bart PE).
I have a new 320GB hardrive with two partitions on it; one for an operating system (D:), and one for data (W:).
I would like to clone a single partition 60 GB drive (C:) with an operating system and programs onto the first partition of the 320 GB drive, and leave the second parttion data portion of the drive intact.
e.g.
Drive 1; 60GB, Single partition, operating system and programs (Source drive) (C:)
Drive 2; 320GB, two partitions as follows:
Partition 1 - 80 GB (reserved for operating system (Target) (D:),
Partition 2 - 240 GB that contains data I want to preserve (keep data, no changes)(W:).

I have tried using the clone drive, but I can not find a way to clone the operating system from Drive 1 onto the partition 1 of the new drive 2 without overwriting the entire drive.

Can anyone tell me how this may be accomplished? Do I need to upgrade to the 2010 version?

Hello John,

Let me help you.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to clone a disk to a partition (and vice versa). Clone tool allows you to clone a drive to a drive only.

In your case I may suggest you to create a backup of your old hard drive and after that restore it to the first partition of your new hard drive. This will accomplish your task.

Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.

Thank you.
