Clone/Backup non boot drive

Thread needs solution

I have a drive (not the boot drive) that contains all of my program that can be loaded on to a disk other than the boot drive. I think this drive is about to fail. I have tried to clone it a couple of ways using ATI but all have failed. When I swap the drive letters to use the new drive the programs will not run any longer, but when I switch back the old drive the programs work again. I have now tried to backup the drive however I cannot restore it to the new drive. My only option to restore it to is the original drive which is no use to me. The original drive has no partitions and is a 500gb drive. The destination drive is a 1TB drive with no partitions.

Thank for your help

Try this:
- create a disk and partition backup of the old disk,
- remove the old disk,
- put the new disk at the same spot as the old one in the computer,
- reboot on the recovery CD,
- choose add new disk, select your new disk, let Acronis initialize it. Make sure you select the right disk as Acronis might show you drive letters that are different from the ones Windows will show you,
- restore the backup on the new disk. Check the box at the disk level so that it includes the MBR+Track0 as well.

That should work.
