Cloning 250Gb IDE drive to 128Gb Samsung SSD drive

Thread needs solution

Hi, Acronis 2013 will not let me clone to a Samsung 128Gb SSD drive from a 250Gb IDE drive, although there is less than 100GB of stuff on the IDE Drive. So is it the drive sizes that cause this, or that it is cloning from an IDE drive to an SSD drive that is the problem.
Thanks,
Robert

Hello Robert,

Your 250GB IDE disk will yield approx. 232GB of formatted capacity
The 128GB SSD will yield approx. 111-114GB of formatted capacity

If you have less than 100GB of data to clone, this should fit on the new drive. The interface doesn't matter either.

What error do you receive when you attempt to clone? Also if you wouldn't mind sharing the steps you are performing this will also be helpful.

Thanks for replying. When attempting the clone, I used True Image 2013; "Tools & Utilities/Clone Disk", then selected "Source disk/Manual", then selected the source disk (my 232.9GB IDE drive on C:); then "Next" and both the Source disk and Destination disk (my 119.2Gb Samsung SSD) were shown as dulled out/not selectable - other IDE drives, 500Gb and 1Tb - were selectable. So that is as far as I got. So there was no error message, only the drives dulled out, so I could go no further. I could try and take stuff off the IDE drive so that the SSD drive would have room to spare. So I might try again this evening.

Hi, thanks again - this worked. Got rid of 20GB from the IDE source drive and the cloning to the smaller SSD drive went smoothly.

We are glad this worked.
