Cloning dos'nt work anymore
I've been using Acronis on my present system for a year or so, without any problems. A few days ago I tryed upgrading to Windows 10, but ran into to troubles, so I used my cloned backupdisk to get back to Windows 8.1.
Since then I have not been able to clone my system using Acronis, not in Windows or by pressing F11 in boot. It starts the clone-session, but when it gets to step 2/4, it says "clone failed". What to do?

What's the difference in booting from the CD and the stand-alone program?

I only use the clone disk option from Windows and it works perfectly fine.
Have you checked the log associated with the clone operation?
At C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs you should see a file in the form "service_YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM-SS.log" with a time/date stamp that accords to your invoking the clone option. It's in XML but at the end of the the second line you should see something like Task Name = "Clone Disk" followed by text detailing what's happened during the attempt to execute a clone.

@Chris,
It is supposed to work, yes and I am glad it is the case for you. This forum is full of cases where the process by which ATI modifies the boot records to boot into the pre-windows environment that is stored on the disk to perform the rest of the clone operation leads to issues, in particular if the operation fails and the system is left in unstable condition.
It is highly recommended to perform restores and clones from the recovery CD.

It's been working fine in Windows for me to. Have no idea what happened. I've found the file and can't see anything suspicious.
If you want to take a look at it, you can find it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xlhebea6vamrrkl/service_2015-08-22-00-53-05.l…
I don't think it says anything about what happened AFTER reboot, only until reboot. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Pat L - OK I understand, thank you. Certainly something to be aware of.
Emil - Yes I'd say that looks like an error free log. I also think you're right in that it appears to record events up to the point of reboot. I'm sorry it wasn't of any help to you.

Emil it might be worth doing as Pat suggested and trying the clone from the bootable CD. If it fails them go into the "Logs" option and you will possibly see some useful information. The logs under the bootable option seem more extensive than those online for some reason.

I did as suggested, but it still did'nt work. BUT i got a usefull repport. I think...

I Googled "Run list corrupted" and found i was'nt the first acronis customer with that problem. Now, Acronis tells me to update my SnapApi drivers, but i can't find an update.
I'm using Acronis 2015 build 6613

If I were you I'd run a chkdsk /r x: where x is the drive letter for the Crucial SSD drive.
The problem seems to be with the first partition on that drive.
Oh and it might be worth making sure you have the latest f/w installed for your SSD.

Checkdisk - done
Firmware - done
still nothing. Which would kind of surprise me, since cloning has worked perfect until now. But it is a computer, and it properly has its own will....

Emil I'm so sorry I wasn't able to help. Does it still fail with the run list corrupted error? I would have hoped that the /r switch on the chkdsk would have fixed it. I admire your philosophical approach!
I hope you get it sorted out, good luck.

Hey Chris. IT'S ALIVE!
I did run chkdsk once before, and the system went crazy. Windows started in repair modern and I was afraid it would never start again. But it did.
When you told me try it again I thought; wright, just like the 90' when every call center said "have you turned your computer off and on again?"
Anyway, this time checkdisk did run as supposed, and after a reboot the cloning started just like that.
If you ever come to Denmark please let me now, I definitely owe you one.
BR Emil
