Cloning error - Error code: 10 'File system error found' with extended code: 458,776 'MFT bitmap corrupted,

Thread needs solution

I tried so many times to clone my small HD to a larger one with the same error.
I already chkdsk, defrag, the Source HD and formatted the new disc.
The error is: Error code: 10 'File system error found' with extended code: 458,776 'MFT bitmap corrupted,
what else can I do in order to perform an error free cloning.
My system is Windows 7 64B and I using Acronis True Image 2013.
Thank you for any comments or suggestions..

jofica,

Open Windows Disk Management and capture the screen, then attach the file to a post here so that we can see the partitions on your source HDD.

If you have hidden partitions or partitions with no drive letter, the error(s) may be on one of them, and they will still need to be checked for errors.

Hello James:
Thank you for your reply.
Attached is a picture of the disc management.

Thanks for posting the image. This helps to see what you have.

First if you have not run the chkdsk command with the /r switch (chkdsk C: /r - from a command prompt), do so.
The /r checks the entire partition for data/file system errors and correct them if found.

I've found the easiest way to run the chkdsk command is to launch a command prompt as an administrator - press Start and type CMD, when displayed in the results list, right click on CMD.EXE entry and select "run as administrator". Once the command prompt opens, type "chkdsk c: /r" (without the quotes) and press enter. The system should prompt you to schedule the disk check (chkdsk) on the next boot. Allow it to do so and reboot.

Use you Rescue Media (bootable CD/DVD/USB Flash drive) to boot the system and then use the tool "Add a new disk" to initialize the target/destination drive of the clone as a new MBR disk. Do not create any partitions. Then start the clone process. Do not let the computer restart or boot up with both the clone and target drive connected after a successful clone, or you will have boot issues in Windows. Connect only the newly cloned drive to the original connecter that the source was connected to, before booting.

Is your system a laptop or desktop, and how is the destination drive connected to the system?

I'm assuming the drive labeled RENDER FILES is NOT the TARGET, is this correct?

Hi James:
I apologize I sent you the wrong picture, this is the right one.
This is a PC, and I connect the destination drive to the SATA and power connections removed from the RENDER FILES drive.
Thank you

The 101MB unallocated partition may be causing this problem.

In Windows Disk Management, right click on the 101MB partition and create a new simple volume, and format it as NTFS. Do not assign a drive letter to this partition.

Boot to your Rescue Media and try the Clone again.

Hello James:
I just created a simple partition and formatted as a NTFS.
Tomorrow I will try to Clone it.
Thank you for your help.

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem than jofica and by the way i'm glad that it works for you!
I'm trying to clone my 500GbHDD to a new 240Gb SSD.

The SSD is plugged to my laptop by USB.

I sent you the Windows Disk Management if it can help you.
Thanks per advance :)
