Cloning Failure Twice

I purchased ATI Backup and Recovery 2010 and installed it. I tried to Clone a simple Western Digital Velociraptor 300 GB to an external Maxtor USB 300 GB hard drive. Seems simple enough to me. But the software failed the first time with an error code 9 MFT corrupted. Strange, no other software I use for that drive had a problem. So I reloaded ATI 2010 and tried again. I also fromated the external drive and all was ok. Tried to clone again. This time the clone process failed again with no explanation, just a message that it failed.

Seems to me there are an awful lots of problems with this software, just looking at the forums and knowledge base. I'm trying to get help from Tech Support. They requested System Report and SysInfo report. I got the first but ATI gave an error message on the SysInfo report and didn't create it.

Anyone have an idea about the failure to clone.

Gotta be an easier way.
