cloning harddrive with two partions (vista and xp) to ssd drive

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I was trying to clone my current harddrive in my hp laptop , to a samsung ssd drive. Using Acronis true image home 2009. I realized i did not follow the instructions correctly, because i had the source drive inside the laptop and the destination drive connected via usb .
When i tried to boot off the ssd drive it booted up in vista just find , but when i selected to boot up in xp , it would get the windows xp screen and freeze. So i switched out the ssd drive and installed the original source drive and neither vista or xp would boot at all. Please help!!!!!!

You've discovered why Clone is riskier than Backup and Restore. Truly, almost no one should use Clone. While Clone saves a step and saves a bit of time compared to Backup and Restore, it comes with risks as if you don't do it correctly you can end up with a non-booting system.

Do you have a full disk Backup, made prior to attempting the Clone?

hello Tuttle,

Yes i do have a full back-up of all the partitions, from this point on i will definately just do full backups.

Good, you can Restore from that full disk Backup, to return your drive to as it was before the Clone fiasco.
