Cloning help

Thread needs solution

Hello
I got a SSD for Christmas and having problems cloning my current drive onto my new SSD. I'm using a new Windows 8 machine with little software added to my computer. I have tried using Clone Disk and using all the automatic settings and each time it fails. When I check the event log these are the messages that I find:

Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 10 'File system error is found'
with extended code: 458,776 'MFT bitmap corrupted'

and the error code is: 0x000A0001+0x00070018

I'm using a paid version of Acronis and have checked for all the updates.

If anyone can help please!!

Jeff,

Run chkdsk /r on your source disk first.

Is the SSD drive in an external caddy or internal to the PC?

Are you cloning a laptop drive?

If you are starting the clone from within Windows, don't! It is not a good idea, make and use the recovery CD and use the clone feature there. Starting from wihtin Windows is fine if the disk does not contain the OS, but OS drives will have less problems if the recovery CD/USB stick is used.

Make sure you have given your old drive a name/label, when booted in Linux drive letter allocation is different to within Windows, drive labels/names don't change, so no confusion can happen in working out which drive is which.
