Cloning image using Acronis True Image 9.0

Thread needs solution

Hi

I would like to clone my Lenovo T61 Harddrive by using 2 external USB connections.

I would like to

1) remove my harddrive and connect to my TP using one external USB (source)

2 ) and place an empty HD in a second external USB (target)

Boot my PC from the Acronis True Image 9.0 CD and run the 'clone' option.

Will this approach work and give my the needed boot records, etc?

I do NOT want to install Acronis onto my 'source' Hard drive. - I understand I will not get any updates this way, but, just want to do an CLONE of my Source HD to a second (equal size) Target HD.

Thanks

The old version 9 offers two ways to duplicate your old drive to a new drive. Restoring a disk option backup or performing a cloning operation. I prefer the disk option restore. Check my signature index for items 7D and 7B.

Because its a Lenova with special disk geometry, your solution will not work but with a slight modification, it can work or your odds are greatly improved.

1. Remove the old drive and install a new own in its place.
2. Locate the old drive inside an external enclosure.
3. Boot from the V9 Rescue CD and perform the clone from the old drive to the new target.
4. Shutdown and disconnect the external.
5. Reboot with only the single new drive attached.
