Cloning old drive to new drive

Thread needs solution

6/20/10
I am using Acronis True Image Home 2009, Windows 7 Home 64 bit. I just bought a new laptop and would like to clone all of my programs and files from my desktop to the new laptop. Can Acronis do this without copying Windows 7 on the desktop? Will the programs work if the Windows Registry is not copied? How should I proceed? The new laptop came with Windows 7 Home already installed.
Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here!

I regret to inform you that specified scenario will not work due to these reasons:

  1. Acronis True Image Home 2009 officially do not support Windows 7 and we do not guarantee its stability and safety of your system
  2. It is impossible to move the programs from one OS to another due to the registry differences. Moving the programs from one OS to anotehr will not work as well: they need to have all necessary registry traces and drivers assigned to the drive.

Please also note that according to the Acronis License Policy you will need one license for one computer your are going to backup or restore. So in case you are going to restore your laptop, you will need one additional license of the software.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
