The way Acronis uses the terms, cloning is for the entire hard drive. So if the drive has only one partition then technically you can clone the partition to another drive that will have only one partition. But generally one would make a Backup (also called Image) of the partition and Restore it to another.

Stefan:

Yes. Create an image of the Windows 7 partition and save it in a convenient location. Then restore the image to the existing Vista partition. Before doing this, a couple of precautions are in order:

1. If Windows 7 installed a separate boot partition, you will need to back up and restore both the Win 7 boot partition and the Win 7 system partition.
2. The restored Win 7 installation may not boot. You will need to boot to the Win 7 DVD and do an automatic repair if this happens.
3. Make sure that the partition containing the Win 7 boot files (whether it's a separate partition or not) is restored as "active".

thanks for the info KOLO.

I hope it will be easier if future versions of TRUE IMAGE does inface a "TRUE" image - and that INCLUDES the MBR.

Stefan:

All images created by TrueImage contain a copy of the MBR.
