Cloning problem

Thread needs solution

I am running Windows 7 on a 1 year old Samsung R530 laptop. I am attempting to upgrade my hard drive. I have attached my new HD through a USB Cradle. When I run the Clone wizard everything starts OK but then the program disappears into the system tray and is difficult to respond to when it says that the system will reboot. Sometimes it will not allow me to accept the reboot option becauase I cannot see it.
Whne I do get that far and the computer begins to reboot the Acronis software begins to startup and I get the following messages
Loading please wait......
no raid disks
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while............
Setup AVD devices
Failed to read MBR sector.
_

The computer then reboots and starts windows.
Any ideas about what I can do? I have run Chkdsk, I have reinstalled, I have checked for updates.

Peter,

1. Make the recovery CD and boot from that. Make sure it can boot your system and see all the drives. TIH will reboot into Linux so you might as well start there and not get any nasty surprises.

2. Try reverse cloning, take the current drive out and put that in the cradle and place the new drive into the laptop, boot from the CD and clone external to internal.

Make sure you remove the external drive when the time comes to reboot after the cloning has finished.
