Cloning Problems with Laptop Hard Drive
I am trying to clone my laptop hard drive. I have installed new 320 GB SATA WD hard drive to laptop and installed old laptop hard drive in external USB enclosure.
I am using Acronis TureImage Boot to boot the computer. However after the boot when I connect old drive (external USB enclosure), Acronis is not able to read it. After red light blinking on external hard drive for several hours, it gives an error that it is not able to read the external drive.
There is nothing wrong with original laptop hard drive. It is 80GB and I have run chkdsk /r several times. My laptop is Lenovo 3000 G530.
Please advise what do I need to clone my hard drive.
Thanks
Rakesh

Thanks for your comments.
I am using Western Digital edition of Acronis True image Home 2009 backup. It is Version: 14010 Publish Date: June, 2010.
Actually, it is Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I wrong incorrectly that it was laptop. Dell Vostro 1500 has Windows XP.
If I were to backup, do I need new drive (different than the target drive)?

When performing a backup, this can be done using the Rescue CD but the original master drive should be placed in its original position inside the laptop before executing the disk option backup.

Should I back up the data to another disk (third drive), or can I backup to destination disk and recover from it?

When backing the orignal C: drive (Toshiba 80 GB), I get the following error
I/O error:

You need to store your new backup on a third drive.
You cannot use the 320 as the backup would be wiped away by the clone.
You cannot use the 80 as the backup location because you need the backup stored elsewhere in case you need to restore the 80.
Regard the i/o error. I assume you have reattached the 80 into its normal location inside the laptop.
My next step would be to check the disk for disk errors.
There are several access point to check for errors. One would be from a command prompt:
type CHKDSK C: /R
and press the Enter key. Most likely, a reboot will be needed after the command.
This chkdsk process could take several hours to complete and the results will appear in your Events log under the Applications heading and be listed as a Winlogon event.

I run chkdsk /r several times, but I was not able to reverse-clone toshiba 80gb hard drive. whenever I connected it with external usb, Acronis could not read it and gave "I/O" error.
Finally, I did full dis backup of toshiba 80gb hard drive, and restored to new disk. New Disk is not working fine.
Thanks for all your help very much. I appreciate it.
