Cloning a Tivo Drive

Thread needs solution

Good evening all. I am sure this question has probably been asked but I can't seem to find an answer searching through the Forum messages. I am very experienced in Windows, but not at all with Linux. What I want to do is replace my Tivo's hard drive with a larger drive. I have done this in the past using a bootable linux CD and a bunch of command line instructions, but I was wondering if I could do this using TrueImage Home 2010 from within Windows? I have an e-SATA dual port SATA hard drive dock and would like to simply pop the old Tivo drive into one slot, the new 2TB drive in the other slot, and have TrueImage clone the original to the replacement. Can TrueImage Home 2010 do this? If not, is there another Acronis product that can accomplish this task (under Windows or an Acronis booter)? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hello Mike,

Let me assist you.

Unfortunately, we've never tested Acronis True Image with Tivo drives, however, we don't expect any difficulties with migrating to a larger drive. Even if it won't work within Windows, you can try Acronis Bootable Media that is Linux-based.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Mike:

Tivo boxes use several Host Protected Areas (HPA) on the disk that are inaccessible to cloning software like Acronis True Image. In order to do what you want you will need specialized software that can create and copy the HPA information to a new disk. I've used this product successfully in the past:
