Clonng to SSD

Thread needs solution

I want to clone a HDD to an SSD (Win XP operating system, hidden partitions, etc, etc). Are there any issues in doing so? Or does the SSD just behave completely like a HDD?

Thanks

EDIT: I should add that this is a followup to a previous post. I am not cloning a desktop or laptop drive, rather it's a proprietary music server drive. OS is XP-based and I need a bit for bit clone of the server drive so that, hopefully, the server won't be able to tell the difference between the original and the clone. If I can only do this with the same type of HDD (Seagate pipeline drive) then this is fine.

Hi,
You have to clone it with a software that enables the ''Optimize for SSD'' feature.
That feature alings the sectors properly on the HD, which is the only requirement for such a transition.

You will need to align the disk partition as Babac has suggested. Here is a link that explains in detail the importance of alignment and how to do it.

Thanks:

Yes, I read the section on this website on cloning to SSD and alignment. Frankly, I didn't understand it. Maybe I'll just stick with good ol' mechanical technology.

If you did not understand what you read then YES! you should stick with a mechanical HDD. It basically boils down to the fact that XP does not align the sectors of a disk correctly when that disk is an SSD. Alignment of disk sectors is necessary to avoid a few issues with SSD's, those are Drive Stutter and Write Amplification. Both of those conditions contribute to premature drive wear and poor performance. Best to stick with the technology that you know.
