Cloud vs normal True Image

Thread needs solution

Hey,

I am contemplating between both versions. While I like the idea of the cloud bases version I downloaded the trial and didn't give much thought to the time it would take to upload the first back up.. But for someone like me with multiple large drives im now thinking the regular version would be more convenient..

Its taking forever to upload 500gb.. I have a 300mb line with an upload speed of up to 20mb. I guess there is no way around slow cloud storage..

Thoughts?

Thanks

You got it right. For large backups, and for many consumers with relatively slow upload speeds (below 5mb/s), a cloud-based backup is not very practical either at backup time, or at restore time. There is value in storing data in the cloud, but I personally see it for individual, irreplaceable files. For OS and pgm data, I think creating backups on a local disk is enough for peace of mind.

I agree with the idea of using a local drive for backups of large amounts of data.  However, I just upgraded to Gigabit service, expecting super fast upload speeds because both upload and download speeds are rated at 1 GB.  Although it actually measures between 800-900 Mbps I am only getting upload speeds of around 20 Mbps with Acronis True Image 2016.  I have increased all my user settings in options to max and still no go.  Thoughts?

Joe,

Check speedtest.com and verify what it shows your upload speeds to be.  I believe Acronis servers are in Maryland - I can't remember.  Run your speedtest there and compare what speedtest shows your upload to be with what you're getting with Acronis.

Cloud backup is slow! However, I have 100Mb\s down and 10 up and Acronis usually gets about 5-6.  I would consider the cloud as an alternative disaster recovery backup, but not a primary location for any backup. At least, if I have a catastrophic faiure (fire or something), even if slow, I can still recover from the cloud. For basic backup and recovery though, local is the way to go for time.
