Cold Image

Thread needs solution

How do I create a "cold image" (a static image of the boot drive created using a boot disk or bootable USB drive) like I used to be able to do with Norton Ghost 2003 and previous versions?

Along those lines, can someone please explain to me how an image of a boot drive can be made while dozens, perhaps hundreds or thousands, of Windows operating system files are constantly changing and/or locdked? Thank you.

Danielle,

You can create a clone, using the Acronis Recovery CD that you produce with ATI (bootable media) or that you download from your Acronis.com account in an ISO form. You target disk will become a one-time copy of your source disk.

You can create a disk and partition backup (which uses the same technology as the cloning process) from ATI running in Windows or on the Recovery CD. You target disk will contain a TIB archive file with all the information needed to restore your system onto a new disk, for example.

To paraphrase Marc, ATI uses proprietary snapshot technology that freezes the information to be backed up at the beginning of a backup. Your computer can be user during a backup normally.
