Computer boot problem returns periodically; Acronis TI 2015 is working in background?

Thread needs solution

Hi,
The day after installing True Image 2015, my computer (an XPS PC from Dell) wouldn't boot. Through the forum and support I was able to reboot the computer using the OS disk, which is Win 7 - 64 bit. I did so by accessing the boot sequence and selecting the DVD drive into which I had inserted the Win 7 disk.

Recently my computer has not been going to sleep. I could find no reason based on the instructions as to how to search for a program interfering with the auto sleep function. I did notice there was an Acronis icon in the "show hidden icons" box, and haven't seen one there before. Then one evening I shut the computer off and noticed a message, "Acronis is completing a function and the computer will shut down in 2 minutes."

So today I went to the start menu and deleted anything Acronis. I want to use Acronis TI only when I periodically need to backup the C: drive (which I've changed to a Samsung SSD). I also looked through the Acronis program and changed everything (I hope) to "Do Not Schedule." After restarting I once again had the same problem with the computer not booting. Once again, I rebooted using the DVD drive. This also happened a couple days ago, when I noticed the computer wasn't sleeping.

So.

Question one. What could Acronis be doing in the background? And whenever I access Acronis TI 2015 to do a backup of the C: drive, is it going to start redoing whatever it is in the background? I don't have a cloud backup option and didn't enable one when I loaded Acronis TI 2015.

Question two. What is it I can do to prevent the boot up problem from happening ...... when I'm not here to reboot with the DVD and my wife wants to use the computer?

Qusetion three. When I start Acronis 2015 will it also start any of the problems mentioned above: running in the background; scheduling backups to discs I haven't had in years -- it has a good memory :); prompting the problem with the boot sequence.

Thanks for your time,
BAB

Hmmm... Possibly a combination of problems across upgrades of ATI, schedule manager, aborted operations that modified the boot records...

I would recommend you:
- move your existing backup TIB files to another directory for safekeeiping,
- delete your backup tasks,
- uninstall ATI,
- run the Acronis cleanup utility, follow each instruction very carefully,
- reboot,
- re-install ATI and start new backup tasks.

That said, without the boot issue, I had a similar issue with one computer I upgraded to Windows 10 from Window 8.1. Some operations were slowing the shutdown. After a couple of shutdowns across the various admin users, it went away.

Thanks, and I'll keep this in mind. To date, since stopping the scheduled tasks and removing ATI from the start menu, the computer now goes to sleep when programmed to do so and the problem with the boot sequence has not returned. I'll do another C: backup this week to see if that brings back any problems, but I have a suspicion everything will work the way I want it.

Was there a recent update to ATI 2015? Is there a way I can stop auto updates to be certain things haven't changed without my knowing? I would load the updates most likely, I just want to know about it so I can be certain ATI stays in the configuration I prefer.

Yes, in ithe Account section of the left navigation icons, you can turn off the check for new versions at startup.

So the reboot problem reappeared this morning on startup. I'm going to delete Acronis TI 2015 and find another program that will allow me to just backup my C: drive when I want that backup and not interfere with the rest of my computer. This is the reason I stopped using Acronis two or three years ago, and apparently the situation hasn't changed. I wouldn't really need a third party program if I could just get MSN backup to work. Apparently there's some problem with SSD drives? Not sure, but unless I hear from someone with a sure-fire cure for this reboot situation, I'm finished with Acronis.
