Conflict with TI 2014 and explorer.exe in Win 8.1

Thread needs solution

Hey gang,

I have been having a problem for a few months now, and finally have been able to resolve my problem, by uninstalling True Image 2014.

What has been happening:
More often than not, when rebooting or cold starting Windows 8.1 64 bit, I would be dumped to a non functioning desktop, with blank icons. Now I could eventually get it working by clicking the mouse every few seconds, till finally the desktop would come back to what it should be.
In event viewer, I had the following message each time:

The program Explorer.EXE version 6.3.9600.17667 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

I spent many days troubleshooting this issue, and finally found through a search on the internet, that Acronis True Image 2014 was causing this issue with some other users. So I did a complete uninstall of TI 2014 and cleaned out any remaining remnants of it.

I no longer have the above problem, which has plagued me for a few months now. Big sigh of relief!

Now I have been using Acronis True Image products for several years now, and liked having the ability to easily create full image backups of all my partitions.

Does anyone know anything about this issue, and whether it is still a problem with TI 2015? I certainly don't want to go through all of this again, and am not going to install it unless I know it will not conflict as TI 2014 has...

Thanks for any feedback,

Man, I was having the exact same issue for the last week, spent so much time figuring out what's wrong. Had to try few different ssds, try all my ram sticks one by one and installing all my programs one by one before figuring out that TI2014 is the most likely cause. Thanks for confirming this for me.
I would like to know if anyone has a solution to this as well.

Glad to help, it had me pulling my hair out for a few months.
I was about at the point to do a format and reinstall of everything, so glad I found the cause before taking that drastic step.

I created an image of my system today just using the disc image program in Windows 8.1. It is rather rudimentary but better than nothing I guess.
I really like True Image as one can restore individual files from the image itself , and obviously has a lot more features. But I can not live with the problem it was causing me with nearly every boot, with explorer.exe not running.
My system is running great now as it should , no more problems.

To be fair, this may have been an issue that got identified and resolved in a future build or in TI 2015, which is why I posted about it. If I find that to be the case with confirmation , I will gladly give TI another try.

Ok so I upgraded to 2015 (really didnt want to do this given all negative posts about it, but oh well), made one full backup, restarted my pc a couple of times and so far it's working fine.

Good to hear, hopefully it has been resolved for 2015.
I am still on the sidelines on this one, I may give it a try later on.
