Consolidate backups

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've got a 1tb USB backup drive that is almost full, about 90 gb free space.

The latest backup stopped because TO said there is not enough space free. AFAIR previous versions of TI had a feature to consolidate backups and clean up things this way.
It seems version 2015 and 2016 does not have this anymore.

So how can I regain some space on my backup device? Or should I better ask: which backups can a safely delete to NOT loose current backup schemes and how to prevent this situation again?

I've attached the current (incremental) backup jobs to get a first impression.

Forgot to mention that backup A a creates those files with System_C prefix whereas job B those with Spiele_D_G.

Any advice available?

cu,
Michael

Job B appears to be your problem as it is out of sync with its settings. Something happened on Feb 1 with this job. It shows in the file numbering.

On both jobs, Your chain length is 5 files (Full + 4 inc). The automtic deletion is not supposed to occur until 7 days after Backup #6 (Full B2) has been completed. Automatifc deletion is supposed to occur on both jobs after backup #6 occurs. For backups which are weekly or monthly, the option "delete older than x dayis" is not a good choice.

You need to delete some of your backups in order to gain storage space.
Each incremental is unique and each has data no other inc has, so you connot delete just the oldest inc.
You can only delete all of the inc for a specific chain and keep the full; or additionally delete the full so all of the oldest chain is deleted.

If your capture is showing all your files, (where are the missing files) y

From the files indicated, your only choice is to manually delete all 5 files of the D backup named B3 created by Job 2.

Additionally to stop using the Job 2 and create a new replacment for it but using
full + 4 inc, plus "store no more than 2 recent version chains" rather than "delete after 7 days".

Thanks GroverH for your reply!

I've now deleted all b3 files and restarted the backup. TI however is now missing a b4 file which is not (yet) on the disk either. AFAIR this was the problem before, too, before posting here.

Nevertheless, I've confirmed the message that was telling me about this missing b4 file with Ignore instead of Retry or Cancel and TI started to backup with a new full b4 version.

Guess that's it for now. Thanks for your support!
