Consolidation clarification

Thread needs solution

I have done a lot of backups and now I need to consolidate some of the older ones.
In typical Acronis fashion, the message boxes and instructions are obtuse and unclear.
Can someone please clarify how to do a consolidation?

Here's what I have:
Full backup name IOData
Incremental backups IOData2 to IOData16 (I don't think there ever was an IOData1)

Here's what I want to end up with:
A consolidation of all the backups (original full backup plus IOData2 though 16)
I don't mind what it's called, but I would have guessed calling it the final backup (IOData16) would make sense.

Here's what I do:
In the Recovery Window, I right click IOData which starts the consolidation wizard. It asks 'Select backups to keep'. Well, I want to roll them up into one file, so I guess that means I don't want to keep any of them except the consolidated one. Is that right? Or do I not want to keep any of them? It's so unclear.
In the 'Finish' section, it says the location will be IOData16 for both the Location and the Destination. What's the difference between a location and a destination? If they are the same why does it list both?

I'm just taking it carefully, as I don't want to lose my backups!

Thanks for the clarifications.

Peter,

The Select Backups to Keep item means the images you want remaining after consolidation has taken place.

In other words - if you have,

file.tib
file2.tib
file3.tib
''
''
''
file16.tib

and you don't tick any you will have 1 new fileX.tib plus all your other 16 images. Therefore if you want to end up with just one consolidated image and no residual image files, you'd tick all of them.

However, unless you are going to start a new imaging task, it is not advisable to delete the initial full image if all your other images are incrementals.

As for the last part of your question I take it you aren't using TI 2010, so before I go any further, what version are you using?
